Why people choose Papertray

What you get with Papertray.

More for free.

Unlimited projects and areas, every view and the calendar are free. Sharing with one other person is free too, which is all most couples need.

A place for every kind of when.

Today for now, Upcoming for anything with a date, Anytime for whenever, Someday for maybe. No filters to set up first.

Calm by design.

No karma, no streaks, no badges. Just the list, who it's for, and a ring that fills up as real to-dos get done.

In fairness

Where Todoist is the better choice.

  • Todoist's quick add understands dates like "every other Friday at 4pm" as you type.
  • It has labels, priorities and saved filters for very custom setups.
  • Its integration catalogue is much bigger, and it has native apps on every platform that work offline.
  • If you run a large team or want to tune every detail, Todoist has more to offer.

Moving over

Bring your lists with you.

Papertray imports Todoist directly. Paste your API token from Todoist → Settings → Integrations → Developer into Papertray's Settings → Integrations, and your projects, sections, labels, dates and repeats come over in one go. The token is only used in your browser and never saved.

Questions.

Is Papertray cheaper than Todoist?

Papertray Pro is $4 (€4 in the EU) per person per month. On 4 November 2026 Todoist listed Pro at $7 a month or $60 a year. Papertray's free plan also has unlimited projects and the calendar, where Todoist's free plan has up to 5 personal projects.

Can I move from Todoist to Papertray?

Yes, in one go. Papertray reads your projects, sections, labels, dates and repeats with your Todoist API token, shows you a preview, and imports them. The token stays in your browser.

Does Papertray have natural-language dates like Todoist?

Partly. When you add a to-do on a day in the Calendar, a time like "14:30 Call Ana" is understood. Dates are otherwise picked from the date menu, which also holds Repeat, Someday and Assign.
